Ribbon Cutting at Navy Facility

As shown above, AMC President and CEO, Bruce Exum, Jr. participates in the Ribbon Cutting Ceremonies at the Grand Opening of the Navy’s newest Child Development Center. The Norfolk Naval Shipyard facility is the result of excellent  Army – Navy cooperation. The new facility, designed to provide child care for 154 infants, toddlers and pre-school children, will serve Navy families at the shipyard. However, the general contractor, AMC built the facility as part of a Nationwide CDC Project for the Army.

Gift Presentation

AMC's Nationwide CDC project has been a wonderful success for both the military families who use the new facilities, and for everyone involved in constructing the Child Development Centers. The project's engineers, Burgess and Niple, Inc., have been involved with the project for a number of years and in recognition of our continuing, successful relationship presented AMC with a token of their appreciation.

Presenting the framed news article about the success of our CDC project were, from the left, Brittney D. Martin, PE, LEED AP, and Project Engineer, and Ronald A. Going Up!

The Norfolk Naval Shipyard is soon to have a new Child Development Center, located in the New Gosport Naval Housing Development. The center will service members and their families assigned to duty at the shipyard. Services will also be available to civilian employees on a limited basis. The new CDC will provide services for infants and children up to the age of five.

The facility will accommodate over 150 children, and will feature a state of the art work, play and learning areas for the children as well as the staff.

Child Development Centers a Huge Success

The Department of Defense needed a solution to a problem. AMC provided them with the solution, and it was a solution that really worked. In fact, it worked so well that our customer has upgraded some of the designs and added a few new locations as well. The interim Child Development Centers have been constructed at a variety of sites throughout the United States over the last two years.

Product quality, professionalism at all levels, and a lot of very hard work over an extended period have resulted in a very successful project.

Divers Prepare the Way

As the final stages of the VA Seawall construction project start some things are different. One change was the location of the large steel rods designed to tie the wall back into the property. On the front side of this beautiful property the tie-ins were above the low tide line so the work could be completed without the use of  divers.

This seawall, nearly a mile in length, protecting this Veterans Medical Center from the beautiful Chesapeake Bay has been completely rebuilt by AMC over the past 17 months. The Veteran's Administration has often expressed their appreciation for the way AMC has handled the project and for the excellent quality of the workmanship.

US Army Extends 7 Year Relationship with AMC

AMC has completed over 32 projects for the Army, including $1.3Million  Building 805 barracks renovation and the $1.9 Million Building 820 renovation, all under the Basic Ordering Agreement with Ft. Eustis, Ft. Monroe, Ft. Story, and installations under the authority of the Northern Region Contracting Center.  AMC has been a preferred contractor at these military bases for nearly 7 years.

AMC's performance under this contract demonstrates our ability to manage multiple projects with different requirements at several locations concurrently. A number of the projects completed under this agreement have used modular construction to save the US Army time and money.  This agreement was just renewed for three more years in May of ‘07.

Ft. Story Bowling Alley Cooled for Summer

AMC replaced 18 ton and 5 ton air conditioners at the Ft. Story Bowling Alleys recently. The popular eating and entertainment facility will ready for the troops when the warm weather arrives in a couple of months.

The Basic Ordering Agreement (BOA) that this Task Order was initiated under has been in effect since May 2006 and will conclude in May of 2009. This is the third such agreement that AMC and the US Army have operated under over the last six years, serving multiple military facilities in Southeast Virginia. The tasks AMC has been asked to preform have varied significantly. AMC has provided emergency services, minor renovations, building additions, and major construction and renovations under these agreements.

VA Hospital Seawall

AMC and the VA Seawall Project round the corner. With the front 3/4 mile long section of the seawall nearly complete work has started on the rear protion of the mile long construction project.

The seawall at theVeterans Medical Center in Hampton, VA is undergoing extensive repairs. Nearly fifty years of pounding from the waters of the Chesapeake Bay have taken their toll. AMC initiated a major repair initiative a year ago, and progress to date on the nearly mile long renovation has been outstanding. Scheduled to be completed early this summer, the new seawall will be protecting the historic site from the seas for many years to come, and at the same time adding significantly to the beautification of the property.

CPR and First Aid Classes Completed
Early on AMC made the decision to train all of their employees in CPR and First Aid even though we are typically only required to have one or two trained persons on site at any given time. Years later the tradition continues. Nearly all of our Tidewater Virginia team was present for last weeks training.

Having every person on a jobsite equipped with basic First Aid and CPR skills has obvious advantages if and when a situation arises that requires an immediate response. We want to provide any injured worker the best care possible, and training is the starting point for a providing that level of care.

Army Barracks Renovations Completed
AMC has just completed the second interior renovation of Fort Eustis Barracks for the US Army. The two projects totalled $3.3MM, and each took approximately a year to complete.

After major demolition and abatement was completed, new electrical, HVAC and finishes were installed totally revitalizing a 1950s building. An old, moldy, lead laden building has been given a new 21st century life where todays modern Army can live and work in a totally functional, updated building.
